What this policy covers

Giganome is a metronome for iPhone and Apple Watch, published by Michael Mendez. This policy covers the app on both platforms and this website.

Information the app collects

None. The app has no account system, gathers no identifiers, and contains no analytics or advertising software. There is no server operated for it, so there is nowhere for information about you to be sent even in principle.

Your settings, songs, and sets are stored on your own device by the operating system. They are included in your device backup if you have one, under Apple’s terms rather than ours.

Band sessions

A band session is a direct connection between devices in the same place, made over Apple’s local networking. No server sits in the middle and no internet connection is used.

Only shared musical state crosses that connection:

• tempo, time signature, and subdivision
• whether the metronome is playing, and the count-in length
• timing values used to keep the devices in agreement
• a band name, if a musician typed one
• the title of a song somebody calls, so everyone’s screen names the same tune — the title travels, the song never does

The connection is encrypted with a key derived from the six-digit session code, so a device without the code cannot join or read it. Only a hash of the code is advertised while a session is discoverable, never the code itself and never the band name.

Your own iPhone and Apple Watch use the paired-device link between them instead, which does not involve a network at all.

Local network permission

iOS and watchOS ask for permission to find devices on your local network the first time you start or join a session. Giganome uses that permission only to discover and connect to other devices running Giganome. Declining it prevents sessions and affects nothing else; playing alone is unchanged.

Speech recognition

Dictating a song uses on-device speech recognition. Audio is processed on the iPhone and is not uploaded, not stored after the song is saved, and not sent anywhere. A device or language that cannot recognise speech on-device is offered typing instead rather than falling back to a network service.

Microphone access

Dictation requires microphone and speech recognition permission, which iOS asks for the first time you use it. Both are used only while you are dictating a song. Refusing either leaves every other part of the app working.

Songs you share

Songs and sets can be sent to another musician as a .giganomedocument over AirDrop, Messages, or anything else in the system share sheet. That happens only when you choose it. The document is a plain JSON file containing the titles, artists, tempos, meters, and divisions you typed. It is delivered by the service you picked, under that service’s own privacy terms, and never passes through anything operated by us.

This website

This site counts page views, so we can tell which pages are worth keeping. It sets no cookies and builds no profile of you. A visit is identified by a hash of the request your browser made, and that hash is discarded after twenty-four hours, so nothing follows you from one visit to the next, or from here to anywhere else.

Each count records:

• the page you were on, and the page you arrived from
• an approximate location, no finer than a city
• the kind of browser, operating system, and device

It is not tied to your name, your email address, or your IP address, and it is only ever read as a total rather than as one person’s visit. The counting is done by Vercel, who host this site.

The site also counts when an App Store download button is selected. That count records only the page source and the button’s location on the page; it contains no information that identifies you.

Fonts are served from this site rather than fetched from a font provider, and nothing else here is embedded from a third party. Your hosting provider may keep ordinary server logs.

All of the above is about the website. The app itself still collects nothing at all.

Children

Giganome is suitable for any age and collects no information from anybody, including children.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever begins collecting information, this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the date at the top will change.
